Replace single drive RAID 0 on PERC 6/i

Hello to all,

I have in production a PE 2900III with perc 6/i, current config; Win 2k3 R2, 2x 160GB SATA RAID 1, 3x 160GB SATA RAID 5 and 1x SATA 160GB RAID 0 (imaging/junk drive). OMSA 3.5 is installed. I must replace the 160 GB RAID 0 junk drive with a 500GB SATA drive. I have cloned the 160 via USB to the 500 and expanded the partition, but I ‘m not sure of what to do next. Do I just swap drives or insert the 500 in another slot and create another VD on the Controller (Ctrl-R)? Does the 500 clone need to be initialized? Any instructions/help to effect the swap is much appreciated.

Thank you.

You should first delete the VIrtual Disk containing the single-disk RAID 0, so the controller stops looking for it after the drive is removed.  Once done, you can put the new drive in, it should show as READY, then create a new Virtual Disk - single-disk RAID 0 with it.

Deleting the VD can be, but the Reconfigure cannot.  I would do this from Windows, using OpenManage Server Administrator.

ftp://ftp.dell.com/sysman/OM_6.2.0_Man_Node_A00.exe

If not already installed, then download and run to extract files, then run C:\Openmanage\windows\setup.exe.  Choose the Custom installation and make sure that Storage Management (and all sub-features) is installed.

Flash thanks for the reply. Should this be done in the BIOS Configuration (Ctrl-R) or with OMSA?  Thanks again!!
