Seagate MSA5 for model number(s) ST6000NM0014 blocked at RAID Controller

Hello.

I have buy 8 piece SAS Drive Seagate MSA5 for model number(s) ST6000NM0014 with capacity of 6TB

i have installed it to Dell R720 with PERC H710 Mini and want to start config the raid for the harddrive.

But at the RAID controller, the hard drive detected as blocked. Therefore, i can't use the harddrive.

What i have done is update the firmware of the server using Platform Specific Bootable ISO, PER720, 19.12.00

But nothing change.

Can anybody help me with this case?

*sorry for my bad english

A drive is put into a blocked state by the storage controller when there is a communication issue. That drive appears to be 4kn block size. I don't think 4kn was supported until the PERC H730.

Hello @DELL-Daniel My ,
Thanks for the answer.

So i need to use at least PERC H730 to use 4kn drive?

Does PERC H730 supported for Dell R720 sir?

If yes, i will order PERC H730.

I need your advice.

Hello,

The PERC H730 wasn't ever validated for the R720 platform, unfortuantely. It may work, but we don't have any documentation saying that it will, nor any tests showing it to. The only PERCs validated for this server are the H310, the H710, the H710P, and the H810.

As for the drive, I looked into it and found the part number. It appears that the only servers it was validated on were from 13th generation. There may be a compatibility issue somewhere. The server did have a handful of 4kn drives as supported, so the problem would appear to be sourcing from elsewhere.
