T610 - PERC H700 Internal Integrated

Jump to solution

Hi-

We'd like to expand our current RAID5 VD for our data partition.

Can we dynamically add more disk "without" wiping the array and re-initializing?

Meaning, would our data be intact on our Windows NTFS partition and "not" have to backup & reformat FS?

We've talked to Dell support in the past and had to wipe a RAID10 array and reformat, etc. for a T620 w/ an H710 adapter.

For ourT610 - PERC 700 adapter - there is a tech spec from Dell - it mentions "online disk expansion" - what exactly does this mean?

--> www.dell.com/.../perc-technical-guidebook.pdf

Thanks for any clues or help.

The answer is yes and no.

YES if you have a RAID 0,1,5, or 6. OCE/RLM can expand your RAID array by adding disks to it. (On the H7x0, you can also expand by replacing disks with larger ones.)

NO if you have a nested RAID level (10, 50, and 60).

NO if you have multiple arrays configured across the same set of disks (slicing).
