BMC IPMI over IP with dedicated NIC. What port is shared?

I have Dell R210 with iDRAC BMC. I want to install dedicated Intel PRO ethernet card..

I dont use BMC but I am going to need it soon. I need IPMI over IP service (to power cycle remotely). I understand that with on-board ethernet BMC shares port 1 with the OS. What powrt will be used if I install dedicated ethernet card? Will it be still shared?

Hello Maxima120

Yes, if you have the iDRAC express it will only use port 1 of the LOM. Even if you add a PCIe NIC it will still only use port 1 of the LOM.

Thanks

OK thanks. I think thats the answer... However wanted to note that iDRAC BMC is new name for old BMC. Currently (at least in Dell UK) iDRAC can be either BMC or Express or Enterprise... Means BMC cannot be Express..
