Change M905 Motherboard to M805

I recently purchased a K547T mother board for a Dell PowerEdge M805/M905 blade server. The motherboard is supposed to be for both servers. The basic difference between the M805 and M905 is that the M805 specifies two 2000 series AMD processors and 16 DIMM slots, while the M905 specifies four 8000 series AMD processors and 24 DIMM slots. I have configured the K547T with two 2000 series CPUs (sockets 1 & 2) and 8 DIMMs. It is configured as an M805 would be configured with terminators in CPU sockets 3 and 4. The components (CPU and memory)  I used were taken right out of an M805 chassis with the same part number motherboard, K547T. The Chassis Management Controller (CMC) displays the server as an M905. How can I get the server to display as an M805 instead of an M905?

Thanks Geoff. I already upgraded BIOS and all firmware with Dell SUU 7.3.0. M805 BIOS is at the current rev of 2.3.3.

During POST, how is the server identified?  As a M805 or M905?

Try flashing the board with the M805 bios to see if this will change its display: http://downloads.dell.com/published/Pages/poweredge-m805.html

Select drivers, then bios.  Select  the update that will suit your needs. Let us know if this changes the display function.

How foolish that I did not think to look at that. It is identified as an M805. How do I get the CMC to reflect that info?

Yes to both questions.

Geoff,

Did you mean a racreset? Can I do that from the CMC CLI?

Perform a racadmracrest on the iDRAC for the blade and failover the CMC.  This should get it to recognize the M805.

Okay Geoff, here's the scoop. This M1000e is a test chassis I use in my lab for testing blades, switches, etc. I do not have a redundant CMC, so I cannot fail over. Here is what I did:

1/ racreset on the M805 iDRAC

2/ racadm racreset on the CMC

3/ racdump still  displays the blade as an M905

4/ removed the M805 blade (slots 1&9)

5/ racadm racrest on the CMC again

6/ reinserted the M805 blade (slots1&9)

7/ racdump still displays the blade as an M905

Any other ideas? Perhaps a different sequence of events? Maybe reset the CMC to default config?

Thanks,

Mike

My last try on this was to clear the NVRAM using the jumper on the system board. No help. Although the system board is identified as an M803 at POST, the CMC GUI still ID's it as an M905. The CMC firmware was at 4.31 and is now at 4.45 (latest) but the CMC sees the M805 as an M903 with both versions. Is this a bug in the CMC firmware?

Mike
