Configuring a iDRAC 7 to use DDNS (Dynamic DNS)
Hi,
I am wondering if it is anyhow possible to configure the iDRAC for DDNS. Either a well known service like http://dyn.com but a custom service would also be very interesting.
The specs I found on google of the iDRAC 7 say it is a feature: http://en.community.dell.com/techcenter/extras/m/white_papers/20398735/download
Another paper about the iDRAC4 is talking about it: http://www.dell.com/downloads/global/power/ps2q06-20060105-Zhang-OE.pdf
But a question on the knowledge database sais it is not possible: http://www.dell.com/support/Article/ag/en/agdhs1/633860/EN
Could you please direct me in to the correct direction about this topic? Is it possible at all, and if yes: how?
Thanks for any help on this!

Hi Preexo,
It does not have a field for DDNS in the settings, so you can’t choose a DDNS provider and give it login credentials and have to it work. You can have it register itself in DNS and pull its IP from a DHCP server and register that with the DNS server. The last link you provided is the correct answer, if it is set to DHCP it will register with DNS every time the lease expires. This is still designed around LAN access and not WAN. For external access you would still need to forward ports on the router that supports DDNS.

Thank you for the answer!
Is a DynDNS-like feature, where you can set a provider with credentials, a feature which can be expected in a next version of the iDRAC by any chance? Or is this a request which is way off the plan?
Best regards

It was not added in the iDRAC8 features, so I wouldn't expect it on the iDRAC7.

@Pmfs
The racadm.exe (can also be copied together with the lib*.dll from another sytem) will show all idrac information and will also configured all parameters through the OS.
The Dell iSM mentioned powershell. You have to take a look for the most rescent version for your OS and PowerEdge.
