Dell PE 2950 HDD adding a HDD to existing mirror.

Hi,

I have a working Dell PowerEdge 2950, Intel Xeon (2) CPU. It has two 160GB Hard drives (Bay 0 and 1) in mirror. Now its upto 80% full. What option I have here, to increase the drive space to 500 GB? I am not worried about redundancy, but would prefer doing the upgrade without disturbing the OS  if possible (hate loosing the license while moving / reinstalling the server).

I have a DELL PERC 5/i Integrated RAID Controller. It has total of 6 bays, 2 has the 160GB HDD each, others are empty. Total memory 32GB.

Appreciate any suggestions.

Thank you

Easiest way is to add a disk and convert it to a 3-disk RAID 5.

@theflash1932 thanks, looks like a good idea, but I have a couple of questions, assuming the new disk size also 160GB as the other two, On a RAID 5, I assume I will get n -1 total usable space, which is 320GB. Is that right? What are the steps involved, assuming that I have to use PERC 5/i BIOS configuration tool?
