Having the same problem on an R420. Tried all the suggestions, but no change. Was anyone actually able to fix this? If so, please port ASAP.

What was the fix? I have a 720xd now doing the same thing after updates! No way it can be a mother board fix... if so this needs to a  with all the times I've seen this issue here.

Hi,

May I know if your iDRAC is pingable in network? Would you be able to access F10 lifecycle controller?

What was the patches that was applied before it happened?

What operating system are you running?

TDNAKP,

Would you hold down the "i" button on the front of the server for 15 seconds at least, this will do a soft reboot of the iDRAC. If the iDRAC is still not responsive after you try that then please power off the server and unplug it for about a minute, while it is unplugged hold the power button in for 10 seconds, this will drain the flea power from the system so that the iDRAC powers off fully. Once this is done reconnect power to the system, wait at least 2 minutes, then power on the server and see if the iDRAC is accessible.

i button is in the rear on this model but I did all this yesterday and reset NVRAM .. left server off overnight and retried the steps again today. No go at all still giving same errors. Thanks .. I'm truly stumped that another MB will resolve it and these are just locked out forever. I just can't believe that but I have not found an answer and this seems to be across multiple servers 420X 430X 720X .... again it looks like there was a URGENT patch but cannot do it unitl I can at least see the iDRAC recognized.

I'm having the same issue but with an R420.  My iDRAC front console was actually frozen, so to remedy this I powered off the system, and unplugged the power cords.  After this held down the power button.  When I plugged in the server and booted I got the iDRAC initialization failure.  I know I was running iDRAC ~1.45.xx firmware.  How do we fix this issue now that iDRAC is completely unavailable.  Also, we have iDRAC emedded/express so there is nothing to remove, so what's the next step here??

No clue - I'm stumped also.. Trying the /p7 file but canto get it to either see the SD card in at bootup or since the iDRAC is hosed it doesn't know to look on the SD card for the new file?? Anyone? https://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/04/how12633/poweredge-idrac-recovery-procedure-with-firmimg-d7?lang=en

Hi @

Try this;

•Install iDRAC Service Module on the Host OS
•Open a command prompt with administrator rights

•Execute the local WinRM command:winrm i iDRACHardReset wmi/root/cimv2/dcim/DCIM_iSMService?InstanceID="iSMExportedFunctions"

OR

•Execute the remote WinRM command: winrm i iDRACHardReset wmi/root/cimv2/dcim/dcim_ismservice -u:"admin-username" -p:"password" -r:http://"remote-hostname or IP"/wsman -a:Basic -encoding:utf-8 -skipCACheck -skipCNCheck

OK - Screen shots below. I was able to download. Install did not finish  because I believe it cannot see the iDRAC (the whole issue) .. I was however able to run the first command (again I get no iDRAC IP because it is toast) to run the second command. Screen shot shows the errors and the cmd outcome. I then shut down rebooted and still the same. Hard to believe that a FW hickup can have your only option to be of replacing the mother board..

Hi,

Could you check in BIOS if LCC can be enable? - Just a thought.

Else try this method on the server:

To reset the iDRAC using local PowerShell commands, the procedure is as follows:

Pre-requisites

  • Requires Microsoft .NET framework 64-bit version 2.x or newer.
  • The execution policy for running powershell scripts should be set to one of the following:
    • Set-ExecutionPolicy AllSigned
    • Set-ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted

iDRAC Service Module provides a PowerShell cmdlet to locally reset the iDRAC. To use PowerShell for resetting iDRAC:

  • Open a Windows PowerShell session as an administrator
  • Type Invoke-iDRACHardReset

The power thing ... Tried it more times than I can count

Crazy .. I'll work with the vendor I bought it from to see if they can get me a MB.

Thanks.

Let's leave this open until I get the MB and I'll finalize it then.

With even the SD card article you listed not working, it may end up being the tough position of having to replace a board. That having been said, have you unplugged the server, held the power button down for ~30 seconds, then powered back up? I've seen that help with a lot of iDRAC issues, and doesn't require much to try. That having been said, with the SD card process not working, this may not either, but I think it's probably worth testing.

Your pictures aren't loading for me, for whatever reason, apologies if there was something material in there that I can't comment on.
