Dell PowerEdge R730 SEDs

Hi,

I plan to acquire a R730 wih the following Har Drives

RAID 1

- (2) 300GB 15K RPM SAS 6Gbps 2.5in Hot-plug Hard Drive,3.5in HYB CARR

RAID 5

- (4) 600GB 15K RPM Self-Encrypting SAS 12Gbps 2.5in Hot-plug Hard Drive,3.5in HYB CARR,FIPS140-2,13G

Questions:

1. Will this be ok ? I just need the Data Disks (RAID 5) to be encrypted/

2. Can I have both 6 Gbps and 12 Gbps drives in the same unit?

3. Where can I get the vSphere 6 installer for R720 / R730 servers?

Thanks,

Paul

ZianPaul,

The R730 does support  12 Gbps SAS, 12 Gb/s SAS, and 6 Gbps SATA. So the Raid 5 may be an issue being 6Gbs SAS.

With vSphere 6, since it was very recently released by Vmware, it will take us a short time to compile the drivers to the image. So at this point there is not a Dell Customized ESXi 6 installer.

Let me know if this helps.

Hi. Chris,

Just to clarify.

RAID 1 will be compposed of 2x 300 GB 6 Gbps SAS

while

RAID 5 will be composed of 4x 600 GB 12 Gbps SAS

Would this is be a problem?

Thanks,

Paul

The issue will be that while the server supports 6 Gbps drives, it doesn't support 6Gbps SAS, only the 6 Gbps SATA.
