Dell R620 Dimm dismatch Memory

Hi,

We have upgraded our Dell R620 with four new dimm dual Rank of 8GB @1333MHz.

The older dimm were four dimm Single Rank of 4GB @1333MHz. So now we have eight dimm, this is our configuration:

From the bios and the S.O. we can see all the installed ram on the server, but we can't use over the original 16GB of memory.

In the iDrac and the S.O. we didn't find any error, what's the problem that limit the usage of the all ram?

Hello

You can view the memory population rules/guidelines in the system support manual. It is on the support page of the server. In general, you should populate larger and higher rank modules first.

http://www.dell.com/support/

If the available memory is showing correctly everywhere except the OS then the OS may be limited to 16GB. I suggest reviewing specifications for your OS to see if there is a memory limit.

Thanks

Hi Daniel,

I can see all the 48GB of memory ram from the OS, and I'm sure the O.S. cloud use it ( I have the same version on server with 500GB of ram and haven't had any problem).

The only difference is that this one has different Dimm:

four of them are 4GB Dual Rank, while the other four are 8G Single Rank.

Regards

I see in the PDF manual, that the 2core system support this configurations:Schermata del 2018-08-22 11-59-48.png

But I have installed only 48G. Does this mean that I have to upgrade to 64GB of ram?

No, those are just examples or sample configurations. There are supported configurations that are not listed in the manual.

If you are unable to find the reason that the memory is limited then I suggest posting details. If you want someone to review your configuration to find what might be limiting the available memory then you need to provide that information.

Hi Daniel,

What kind of details do you need?

Here are the specs of the Ram:

  • 4 Dimm Dual Rank DDR3 4GB@1333MHz Manufacturer: Hynix Semiconductor (Original Speed: 1333)
  • 4 Dimm Single Rank DDR3 8GB@1333MHz Manufacturer: Samsung (Original Speed: 1600)

The make and model of the memory modules, the make and model of the CPU, and the version of the OS. You will need to provide details about the OS version, if you just say it is something like server 2008 that is not very helpful. Provide information about the specific version you are running.

The server  still recognize 160GB but on dimm A3 and B3, they don't display memory information. Please tell me to fix this problem
