I would like to upgrade the ram in my T300 to the maximum allowed by the system, some sites say the limit is 24GB whilst others mention 48GB
Any clear consensus?

Solved! Go to Solution.
we have a T300 here, fully updated to latest bios etc, OMSA says 24576MB max (it is configured with 4GB)
My thoughts ...
The only reference I can find for 48GB is on Kingston's website. I cannot find any Dell reference to 48GB - and the BIOS release notes do not indicate the support added to its BIOS code to increase support from 24GB. While it is possible that it could support 16GB DIMM's (the R710 supports 16GB DIMM's), I doubt that a low-end machine will support 16GB DIMM's.
One way to see ... check OpenManage Server Administrator, under Memory to see what the max memory supported is. (I'm sure it will require latest BIOS if it is going to support 16GB DIMM's.)
Also ... you can call Dell's technical support - they should have updated internal docs on it if it has been added.
Sorry ... not sure where my head is today - must be on vacation. 6x16=96 not 48! 🙂 Sorry. With that fact in mind, I would guess that it either does or will at some point support 48GB. I would check OMSA to see if your current version (or the latest version 1.5.1) supports it. If not, then I would guess an update is in the works.
Thanks I bought the server 2nd user it came with some documentation but will need to check what or if the disc is there with OMSA on it. Presumably I could just download the latest verion and run it to check?

I think that's our answer ... 24GB max. Unless Kingston knows something we don't about any planned BIOS updates for additional memory support, then Kingston must have just made a mistake.
