Dell T610 Memory Upgrade
Hello,
I know there are other posts about this issue and even for this exact machine. I have not really found the answer I was looking for. I acquired a T610 and will be utilizing that as my storage server. It came with (8) 2Gb sticks totaling 16Gb of ram PC3-8500E at 1066MHz. It has two processors, so 8Gb each processor. I have read the manual and it states to populate the sticks starting closest to the processor and work your way out...basically. They have it populated starting at the FURTHEST slots and are working towards the processor. They inner most slots are then populated with "plastic fillers" so it looks like all 12 slots are full, when it actually isn't. My question is I just bought (2) 16Gb sticks of 10500 ram at 1333MHz. I wanted the fastest it supported and eventually I will fill the entire machine with this exact ram. Where do I put them? farthest from the processor or closest? I know each processor will get one stick, but the placement is what has me confused. I took what was in there and moved the sticks closest to the processor, like the manual stated; however, when I did that the machine did some weird 50% thing and it registered only 8Gb in total and said that the ram wasn't being utilized fully. How is this possible? Please help.
Thank you for your time in this matter.

Sorry, I forgot to add that I know I cannot utilize the old ram in the mean time upon receiving the new ram. The old ram was unbuffered 1.5v and the new ram will be RDIMM and 1.35v. I understand they cannot be mixed, but I still want to get the most benefit from the configuration, so that when I slowly can afford new sticks of ram in pairs, I can just add them accordingly.
