I have been all through the bios and I can see where to disable it, is it possible ?

Hello John

is it possible ?

No, because there is not a second NIC. The R420 has an integrated dual port LOM/NIC. There is not a configuration option to have a second integrated NIC. If you have added a PCIe NIC to the system then you can disable it through the PCIe slot disablement option.

Thanks

Hi

I am not familiar with the  integrated dual port LOM/NIC. When I install Windows 2011 I can see what looks like two NIC's to me

What you are seeing in the operating system is a port. You are seeing something listed like NIC1 and NIC2. Those are the two ports/interfaces. They are part of a single Network Interface Card. What you disable at a BIOS level is the card, not the interface or port.

Thanks

As I am installing SBS2011 as part of a SBS 2003 to 2011 Migration I need to ensure that I only have 1 NIC enabled

I have two physical NIC's on the server

I can't say on the R420, but on the older servers, you could disable either NIC/port in the BIOS. If you can't do that on this server, you will just need to disable it in the OS.
