How do I change the server listed model
I have an R720XD and I am trying to install the firmware update for the backplane, it stops me and states its only for R720XD and it thinks I have an R720 Vanilla, IDRAC also shows the model listed to be "R720" how do I change it to R720XD?

RetCon,
I would start with making sure that the R720XD is up to date on the BIOS, as well as the iDrac. Once completed let me know if the system is still showing as a mismatch. If either of these are what you were trying to update, then I would suggest running the update from the iDrac.
Let me know what you see.

Thank you. Would you please private message me your svc tag, so I may look into the details of the server?
Thanks.

Thank you. I got it.
Another thing I need you to look at is the left and/or right front I/O panels and cables, because if they are not connected properly or damaged then the system may not identify correctly.
Let me know what you see.

Try reseating them as well. Also if you have another R720XD with 3.5in drives then try the known good cable from there to test on this system, and test these cables on the other.
If it turns out the cables are bad then they would be part HMF2K (Left) and part WHW22 (right).

I unfortunately do not have any test cables or ears available, this is my only server. This seems to be pointing towards a hardware component failure? Is there any way to diag the cables, backplane or ears without buying all new to swap in/swap out?
I know on the ears, the left and right seem to have full functionality (the right recognizes USB sticks just fine, on the left, power and reset both work as well as the power light and health status indicator) but I don't have a "good" backplane or cable set to swap in to test with.

is there anything software related I can rule out before starting to order hardware? is there any way to bench test the backplane or cables before ordering to see which one is dead?
thanks

You can try running the 64 bit diags here, or you can use the embedded diags as well.

I will try that when I get home tonight, In the mean time, would it be possible to get the part #'s for the SAS , control and front I/O cables?

I changed out the backplane because it turned out to be faulty, now all the HDD's work, but even after reinstalling the BIOS everything still says R720 instead of R720XD and it still won't allow me to install the backplane firmware update

All the hardware now checks out as being fine, is there a way to clear the bios entirely to factory spec? I can only find the option to reset the BIOS options to factory, I can't find an option to reset the BIOS entirely to the factory version.
