How to change boot device on Dell PowerEdge 2950 using IPMI ?

Hi there,

I am able to run all other IPMI commands on Dell PowerEdge 2950. But am not able to change boot device using IPMI.

The command that I am sending is :

 /usr/bin/ipmitool -I lanplus -H host  -C 0 -U user -P password chassis bootdev cdrom

 /usr/bin/ipmitool -I lanplus -H host  -C 0 -U user -P password chassis bootdev pxe

 /usr/bin/ipmitool -I lanplus -H host  -C 0 -U user -P password chassis bootdev disk

 /usr/bin/ipmitool -I lanplus -H host  -C 0 -U user -P password chassis power reset

None of the commands work. When I reset after this command, it still boots up from its hard disk. I have linux installed on it.

Any help on this will be highly appreciated.

Thanks,

Try it without the chassis listing:

/usr/bin/ipmitool -I lanplus -H host  -C 0 -U user -P password bootdev pxe

Also it's safer to not add the password on that line but to enter it manually when it asks like this:

/usr/bin/ipmitool -I lanplus -H host  -C 0 -U user bootdev pxe
