I have a R520 running RHEL with an iDRAC card in it. How do I go about upgrading the iDrac card. I'm sure they have software/firmware updates like the server, right? And can I upgrade the iDRAC without taking the server itself down?
You can run the following .bin file: http://downloads.dell.com/FOLDER02706140M/1/ESM_Firmware_3F4WV_LN_1.66.65_A00.BIN
You shouldn't have to bring the server down to update it. I would also recommend updating the LifeCycle Controller: http://downloads.dell.com/FOLDER02687140M/1/Lifecycle-Controller_Legacy_Application_TR4J7_LN_1.4.2.1...
Can you do the life cycle one without having to restart the server itself?
is there actually a page for the idrac itself, or do I just go look for the drivers based off the server model number?
I don't believe I've ever updated a server running RHEL, but the Windows updates don't require a reboot. I'm assuming that RHEL would not require a reboot for either of the updates I gave you.
The best page for the iDRAC 7 information is available here: http://en.community.dell.com/techcenter/systems-management/w/wiki/7526.idrac7-home
Updating iDRAC does not require server reboot. Refer below link on more details on updating iDRAC firmware.
