PE 2950 III processor swap results in E1410 cpu1 IERR

hello,

I'm trying to swap processors between 2 PE 2950's   the Doner machine is identical to the recipient except that the proc's are Xeon 5430's where the recipient had working 5320's.  The reason for the swap is for WMware. the 54xx proc's allow for FT in the vmware environment but the 53xx do not.   When I drop in the 54xx proc's and start the system  i get the "E1410 cpu1 IERR" then I try to start.  I swap back in the old procs and everything is fine.  I put the 54xx proc's back into the donner server and it starts up fine.  is there a step I have missed to prep the recipient server for the new proc's??

I believe the 5430 procs have 12M cache and the gen 2 machine will not support processors with 12M cache. The 5320 procs have 8M cache which is the most the gen 2 machine will support.

are they both the same generation systems, 2950 has 1,2 and 3rd gen systems. denoted by the roman numeral on the upper left corner of the front bezel. Assuming they are the same generation, the BMC/drac and bios must be at the latest versions. And just to be sure, power cords should be disconnected.

teresting,  I never noticed that on a Poweredge before.  the recipient server is gen 2 and the donor is gen 3.  How does this impact the swap?
