I've installed a PERC 6/i into a PowerEdge 1800 in Slot 2. (I know Dell doesn't support this hardware combination.) There wasn't any way to mount the PERC's backplane in the PowerEdge 1800, so I bought a 32pin 50 cm SAS to 4 x SATA 32-pin SFF-8484 7-pin M-M cable to connect the PERC to the drives. The computer sees the card, but the card doesn't see the drives. Linux Lite's report on the card is below.
EDIT: Firmware version of the RAID card is 6.3.3.002 (latest available).
SCSI storage controller : LSI Logic / Symbios Logic 53c1030 PCI-X Fusion-MPT Dual Ultra320 SCSI (rev 08)
Would it be possible to install LSI's utility MegaCLI? You can use that to export a log straight from the controller, which may yield information regarding what the controller sees or doesn't see, and if the drives are being acknowledged at the hardware level.
The device you posted is not a PERC 6 ...
You CAN get into the CTRL-R utility for the RAID controller? and it shows nothing under PD MGMT?
Flash made a good observation. Confirming that the Control + R menu works would be a good place to start in confirming what is seen, and that it is indeed a PERC 6. If you can make the outage without difficulty, that may be an easier place to start, since you won't need to install anything.
That is correct. In the CTRL-R utility, PD MGMT page, under Size/MB Type: "No PD Present"
Boot screen says LSI Logic ©2008 PERC 6/i
Firmware version is 6.3.3.002 (latest available).
I had to download the file from home, looks like the URL was being blocked. As for the file, I found MegaSAS.log, deleted.txt, and CmdTool.log.
MegaSAS was essentially an empty file.
CmdTool.log was a single repeating line.
Deleted.txt has some interesting information though. It does appear that the PERC saw drives at one point. Considering the situation, I'm willing to bet it is historical logging. Jumping to the bottom of the log for the newest information, it definitely appears that the controller can't see them at all as there is not even an entry saying drives were blocked.
