PowerEdge 2950 Upgarde BIOS - memory decreased

Hi folks,

Friday, we upgrade the BIOS from 1.2 to 2.7 on our Poweredge 2950.  Before the upgrade the server have 8192Mo of memory.  After the upgrade of the BIOS, Windows 2003 Enterprise R2 detect only 3323Mo of memory. But when I open Dell OpenManage, we can see the 4 DIMM of 2Go are currently install on the server without error.

Somebody can help me on that one ?

Ok, so we know that the hardware is capable of seeing all the memory, as all memory is fully seen in the F2 BIOS and Open Manage. Since we are only seeing the issue once inside the OS, this means it will be something to do with the OS.

The next step I would suggest doing, is adding the /pae modifier to your boot.ini and see if that changes anything.

Here is an article on that.

Thanks

With this kind of issue there are a couple things to look at.

When you upgraded the BIOS, did you also update the BMC, DRAC, PERC firmware also?

If you enter the F2 Setup BIOS, how much memory is listed?

What version of 2003 is being used?

Thanks.

I use finish to upgrade the BMC and the PERC at the latest firmware.  On the BIOS page we can see 8Go of memory installed.

Windows still see only 3323Mo of memory.  The OS is Windows 2003 Enterprise R2 SP2
