Poweredge T610 Windows Server 2012 R2 Onboard Graphics Driver - Matrox?

Jump to solution

Hi, So I just upgraded our t610 server to windows server 2012 r2, But unfortunately I have run into an issue where the default driver for the graphics adapter is "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter."  I did some research and found out that the onboard graphics chipset is a Matrox Card, I tried many different manual adapter installations but with no avail.  The reason I am even trying to find the proper driver is b/c the current one does not properly detect resolutions for any of the monitors that I plug into the server, therefore all images on the screen are slightly distorted.  Can someone please help me pinpoint a compatible driver for manual installation?

Slybrood7,

The video driver is native to the 2012 R2 media. Follow this link and try this update, if you haven't already.

Matrox driver - http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=08MVF&fileId=3337867393&os...

Let me know how it goes.

Alright, So yet again this runs me into another problem, I still cannot use the native resolution of my monitor, I looked into this and this particular drive is limited to very few resolutions, I looked at the .inf file and located that the resolutions set in this driver are

[AddReg.SoftwareDeviceSettings]
HKR,,Mga.PixelWidths,0x00000001,10,20
HKR,,Mga.SingleResolutions,0x00000001,\
80,02,E0,01,20,03,58,02,00,04,00,03,80,04,60,03,\ ; 640x 480, 800x 600, 1024x 768, 1152x 864
00,05,00,04 ;1280 x 1024

I found a forum where people were adjusting their .inf file to force this adapter to take on better resolutions

This was the edited text added to the dell supported .inf

So the above method of editing the .inf files did not work, so I followed the suggestion of another person on the above forum and went into regedit, found the Mga.SingleResolutions, and deleted the binary data and typed in the string for the 1440 x 900 resolution that is in the above list :   58,05,00,03,60,05,00,03,78,05,1A,04,A0,05,84,03  , Did a restart, and magic has happened, my resolution is finnaly my monitors native resolution of 1440 x 900!!!  Hey dell why dont you guys just program all the widescreen resolutions into the native drivers!!

I have this same problem with a PowerEdge 430 and Matrox G200er. Editing inf file also didn't work for me. I am pretty concerned with editing registry data on a server like this and would much prefer an official Dell solution. I found 6 references to Mga.SingleResolutions in the registry. Which one needs to be modified?

Hi there,

After reading the above article on Dell servers not displaying decent resolutions, I thought this might be the place to ask for help.

I have a new T630 from Dell (great machine) and it comes with Matrox G200er integrated graphics. I have a 28" 4k monitor and wanted to get a higher resolution, as it makes the work I do a lot easier.

I'm running Server 2012 R2 on the machine and I've downloaded the latest driver for the G200er and have it running at 1680 x 1050, but I want to get it higher. Even though the G200er is not that powerful, it should be able to push out a higher resolution than that...

From talking to Dell, it seems as though I am stuck, unless I purchase an extremely expensive 'supported' GPU, just to get a higher resolution.

I've read a few things online regarding altering the .inf file and/or registry entries to force higher displays, and saw the same thing on this board, but thought it might be a good idea to check with some people who know what they're talking about first.

Any ideas? Would appreciate any advice you can give.

They are never going to help you. Please delete your premature thanks and de-accept the "answer" provided.

1) You can improve things at the monitor:
Go into your Dell monitor's menu and change the aspect ratio setting to 4:3. (With a VGA signal, the monitor cannot [reliably] determine the aspect ration from the signal, so it stretches it to fit.)

2) The .inf hack MIGHT work. (I haven't tried it.) Some say you have to search Registry for "Mga.SingleResolutions" (every instance) and edit there. Some say you lose the hack if you disconnect and re-connect the monitor,

3) Dell. They build in obsolete garbage (Matrox!!!) and you can't work around it.
