R330 and SGX

Jump to solution

Hi,

Is there any possibility of having SGX enabled in a Poweredge R330 in any future BIOS version?

We just bought a dozen of such, specifically for running SGX processes, which, to our dismay, do not support it in the BIOS.

Thanks, MP

Hello

I don't expect support for this feature to be added to our servers. Based on the information on Intel's website this feature is marketed to laptops and desktops. There are no server operating systems supported by SGX. Since we do not validate consumer/client operating systems on our servers I doubt it will be supported. Our client line of products, like the Precision Workstation, would likely support this feature.

Dear Daniel,

SGX was created for running trusted processes in untrusted environments. It perfectly serves as the basis of a secure execution model for the clouds. Therefore, it is more than natural to want to run in in servers. This is why Intel offers Xeons with it inside.

Anyway, I don't want to create polemics here.

Could you kindly confirm if Dell will not offer support in the future?

Regards, MP

We have Xeons in our workstations. We also have rack versions of our workstations. I suggest looking into our workstations to see if they will meet your needs.

I provided the best answer I can in my previous post. No, I cannot confirm any future support for this feature. I'm not aware of any plans to support SGX on our servers. Since SGX is only supported on consumer operating systems I don't see us supporting this feature on our servers. If Intel starts supporting it on server operating systems then that could change. We do not support/validate consumer/client operating systems like Windows 10 on our servers.

That is about as clearly as I can state it, I hope that answers your question.

Intel supports SGX on "Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 7.3 64bits" , a server operating system. See here: https://github.com/01org/linux-sgx

Hi, my team also searching about R330 to enable Intel SGX feature from BIOS. We found DELL updated their BIOS, and added support for Intel SGX. Please check this: https://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=wdy2p
