R510 memory upgrade to 64GB

Hi,

we have a PowerEdge R510 with a single E5654 CPU. It has 32GB (4 x 8GB in A1 to A4 slots) . I would like to upgrade it to 64GB (or more if possible).

Can I use the slots B1 to B4, or is it only for dual-processor configurations? If not, can I use 4 x 16GB DIMM's in A1 to A4?

Cheers,

jfr

The maximum RAM supported on a single processor is 48GB,  using 3 x 16GB RDIMM's.   You can only use the B slots when a second processor is present.

The manual lists a 4 x 16GB = 64GB as a valid configuration for a single processor, but as Geoff said, the B slots are not usable without a processor (the processor now contains the memory controller).
