R730 show "TPM cannot be used on this platform..."

Hi,

I am trying to use TPM module to do full disk encryption on debian9.

First, I tried use TPM1.2 module ( R9X21 ), But do not found a available solution.

I set the TPM1.2 module to "On without Pre-boot Measurements"

Now, I want to try TPM2.0 module ( M48YR ). But I got an error msg.

"TPM cannot be used on this platform. TPM is turned off. System will reset..."

Did I do something wrong? Please Help!

BTW: Is anyone know how to do the full disk encryption base on debian9?

Hi,

The TPM is keyed to the system board, it can’t be replaced on its own. Page 145 https://topics-cdn.dell.com/pdf/poweredge-r730_owners-manual_en-us.pdf

Unfortunately, there is not that option for servers.

Thank you, Josh But there still have a way to do the TPM version change, right? Only way I can do is call the Dell certified service technicians to help right?

You could replace the system board, if you felt like it. But before that, have you considered a bios update? Sometimes updating that will bring with it several surprises that you might not be aware of.

You need a technician or to replace the whole system board like cambridgereport617 suggested.

only useful if you have a warranty on the unit. Whatever you do, don't you dare let it expire, or else, it's a trip through **bleep** to get it renewed ... if you can get it renewed at all ... At least that was my experience just yesterday, in fact.

You're quite welcome. Any time.
