Recommended temperature for computer rooms.

Hi,

We do not have the luxury of space, so I have to cram all our servers in to a small, not particulaly well ventilated room.

Since adding the last server (PE2650), the temperatures have shot up.  Oh, and winter is becoming spring, is becoming summer.

Right now it is 32*C in there, but it does not really drop below 30*C.

I am arranging for some vents to be put in the door, to try to get some cooler air in, and I have removed the cieling tiles to try to give the hot air somewhere to go.

Can someone tell me the ideal temperatute I should be aiming for ?

And what would be an unacceptable high temperature ?

Thanks.

Well, while I was typing my session expired and I lost a few paragraphs... In a nutshell, most server rooms run between 68F(20C) and 75F(24C). In a lot of cases, the exact temperature is a matter of preference of the operator(s). To compute the AC requirements, have your AC installer take into account the room size, amount of radiated heat (BTU/Watts), people in the room, room insulation (windows, vents, doors, ceiling), room position (sun lit/shaded), and overall climate.

I also am looking for advise on what a maximum peak and sustained temperature might be for most Dell Server and Storage products.  I have seen 104 F to 55 C.  That seems awfully warm.

Maybe to clarify my situation.... I have a server room that has many Dell server products, from a 1650 to the new blades.  What would be the MAXIMUM temperature I could present to the face of the server and what might be the maximum temperature I could expect to exhaust out the rear of the unit?
Thanks.

Similar situation at a few clients, 75 degrees is nice, but if you can keep it below 85 your OK. My main concern is keeping disk arrays cool.

Internal A/C units....
Not that I am recommending this particular brand of  A/C units... I had to use similar units at a few  clients. If you can not vent this to the outside you can vent this above the ceiling tiles if you have no wall partitions above the tile area (large open space) or you can run the flex duct to the space above ceiling tiles in a hallway ( not great for the overall a/c costs in the summer).
