Slow disk speed on Dell Poweredge R720 - RAID 50

Hi,

I have some question about PERC H310 Raid controller configuration on Poweredge R720.

My configuration is: RAID-50 with 8 SAS 6GB HDD. I installed already the latest FW for this Raid controller, and i installed also the latest drivers for Windows Server 2012, but the writing and the reading speed is slow. Writing is 20 MB/s and reading 25 MB/s.

Can anybody help me what to do?

Thank you.

7804206157,

The H310 controller generally offers low Read and Write performance for RAID 50 configuration because it does not have any data cache.

The fact that the H310 performance is due to the hardware limitation in the controller itself, I would recommend that you upgrade to high level controller like the H710 or H710P. They cost a little more but you will benefit in terms of performance.

Hi,

thank you for help. I did the upgrade for PERC H710 mini, i configured 6 SAS for Raid 6, but the speed is not so high. I am disappointed :(

Write: 32MB/s

Read: 60MB/s

Any idea what to do?

Thank you.

What is the make/model of the drives? Did they come installed from Dell?

If you set it up, did you change any settings (stripe size, etc.) during creation of the array? Run any optimization in the OS? Install any programs? What kind of read/write are you doing?
