What/how to install Dell VRTX PowerEdge M520

Hi,

My company purchase a Dell VRTX with one PowerEdge M520.

I have 32GB of memory, and 4 disks: 3x 300GB, 146GB.

I also want to try VMWare.

How should setup this?

Put all the disks in the storage? Or some in the server, and other in the storage?

In the server, should install VMWare vSphere, or install a WindowsServer and then install vCenter?

Appreciate any guidance. Thanks.

After readingyour suggestion and others pdfs, I was wondering if I can setup a VMWare VSAN, maybe this way.

(I think that I have to add an SSD disk, right?)

 Dell PowerEdge VRTX

  • VMWare VSAN (Storage)
    • 3 x 300GB 15k SAS drives
  • 1 x Dell PowerEdge M520 blades (VMWare Esxi)
    • 32 GB RAM
    • 1 x 146GB 15 SAS drives

Hi,

I already setup VRTX storage with the 3 disks (1 VD) and assign the virtual disk to the M520.

But in the storage of the M520, the VD won´t show up. I get this:

What I'm doing wrong?

Well,

I had to figure out on my own. Here follows what I did.

I was trying to install esxi on poweredge m520, and I start to question my self that the problem must be in the esxi that cannot found the lun.

So I start to upgrade firmware:

- CMC: 2.01.A00

- iDRAC7: 2.41.40.40

- Shared PERC8 23.12.56-0086

After this download the esxi 6.0 from dell website for my server, because of the pre-installed drivers, and voila.

In spite the server does not detect the lun in the idrac storage, when I was installing the esxi, it shows up.

Hope this help, someone.
