clear data on PE2950 disks

Jump to solution

Have several PE2950 servers.  Need to wipe data on all disks.  The PE2850 RAID controller had an option to clear data from physical disks.  PE2950 PERC 6/i does not have this option, only clear data from foreign disks.

Will initiliazing a VD do the same thing as clearing a disk of its data?

Yes, initializing the array has the same affect and will clear the data from the drives.

Hi rborman, what's the reason for clearing them? If it's for disposal, we bit the bullet and went for Iron Mountain. They shred the disks and recycle the component materials. Not the cheapest option but you then get a certificate guaranteeing the data has gone forever (I tried using eraser from heidi.ie against a PV220s but this took an age- literally days to erase 1 VD).
