Hyper-V 3.0 and PE2950II

Hello

I have a PE 2950II and I would like to upgrade from Windows 2008 R2 to Windows 2012 with Hyper-V role enabled. Is the PE 2950II compatible with Hyper-V 3.0?

DELL PowerEdge 2950 II:
-Bios: 2.7
-CPU: 1 x L5420

Do you know if I can boot on a "Hyper-V Server 2012" livecd for testing purpose?

Thank you.

It meets all the specs for Hyper-V, so there should be no reason it wouldn't work.  Server 2012 is not officially supported by Dell, but there are reports (including Dell's own Tech Center guys) that it works just fine (although not specifically Hyper-V).  In fact, it even works fine on an older 2850 (minus Hyper-V, as the 2850 does not support VT).

There is no "live cd" available for Windows (Server or standalone).  Hyper-V would be very difficult to "test" in a "live" environment anyway.

ok I will try, thank you.Anyway, Windows 2012 setup could rollback in case of failure.

I had an issue with a T410 because of a third party card and the rollback was fine.

I can confirm the above. I'm running a Windows Server 2012 Standard installation as the host operating system, with Hyper-V installed, running two virtual Windows Server 2012 Standard server instances. It works just fine--great, actually!

Though do not, as posted above, that Windows Server 2012 isn't "officially" supported by Dell--again, no "live cd" support  for installing Windows Server 2012; but anyone who's ever installed Windows doesn't need the help and support of the Dell setup wizard anyway.

Hey Fourpastmidnight...do you get any errors or program crashes that show up in the event viewer?  I have a 2950 with Win2012R2 installed and Hyper-v and all works fine, except I get these event viewer messages below.
