Install OS onto internal USB in DELL T110 and T110II

Simple question really,

Is it possible to install OS directly onto a USB drive inserted into the internal USB slots on a T110 and T110II. I tried in vain to get a windows 8 installer to pick up the internal USB, although the T110 will happily boot from it. Same will apply I guess for ESXi.

If anyone knows how to acheive this (install of USB driver)  please point me in the right direction.

I would prefer to keep the two HDD i have for data and just boot from the USB

thanks

Hello Ad

Yes, you can boot or install an OS onto a USB device on the T110/II. The issue you are encountering with installing Windows on a USB device is an OS limitation and has nothing to do with the hardware. Most versions of Windows do not support USB installation.

I would suggest that you search on Microsoft's site for information about what media Windows 8 can be installed to. I think the Enterprise version of Win8 supports Windows to Go; which is Microsoft's USB installation method.

Thanks
