I recently brought a 'Dell Poweredge 1850' it has 2x 73Gb HDD, I have tried to install 'Windows server 2008' (Not R2) however, when I go to install the OS it will freeze on copying windows files it will usually stop at '55%' I have no idea why this happens, I have downloaded the copy from Microsoft website so it isn't pirated ect, I have configured RAID correctly with RAID 0. Can somebody please point out why this isn't working!
I saw this once with a bad DVD drive, however, here are a couple of things I would try:
I would strongly recommend against using RAID 0.
There is a good chance the native drivers in Server 2008 require more recent firmware.
Aside from the firmware, I might suspect one or both of your drives are bad.
You could also try configuring only one disk in a RAID 0 at a time and installing to it, or try a RAID 1. (Be sure NOT to mess with RAID settings like stripe size, etc.) Also, try letting the Initialization fully complete before attempting.
If I was to try and install windows server 2012 on this and disable RAID, will it pick up my drives? Or will I have to install the raid drivers as well even though its disabled?
