Poweredge 2850 - Nic Teams in Windows 2008 R2

We re-installed a fresh OS with Windows 2008 R2 64 bit.  Everything is working well except we cannot install the Network Teaming utility.  Can we Team the embedded Intel Pro 1000 MT nics in windows 2008 R2 64 bit?

I didn't get what you are asking? Are you not not able to install the tool or not able to find a teaming tool? if you are not able to install then tell me which tool and where you downloaded it.

Thanks,

Raja

I was not able to find a teaming tool for windows 2008R2 on Dell's site.  I did locate a teaming tool on Intel's site, but when I attempt to install the tool, it claims that there are "no intel NICs installed in the server" and closes.  I have verified that the on-board NICS in the Poweredge 2850 are indeed INTEL Pro 1000 MT.

Did you reinstall the drivers, not just the Intel util interface using the Intel drivers vs the dell drivers?

Reinstalling drivers is not succeeding.  I would have no issue with re-installing them, but the utility fails at that point, claiming that it cannot find any Intel NICs to update.  - To recap, the Intel Pronet utility first updates drivers, then installs the teaming software.  When it finds no intel nics to update, it fails and closes out and does not offer any other options (such as "skip the drivers and just install the teaming utility").

Note:  I did update all firmware and base drivers that I found on the Dell Poweredge 2850 page.  It claims the NICs are "up to date".

it seems there is no Driver or teaming tool available for these adapters. These adapters are supported only by the in-box driver available in the OS. Refer http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=18268&lang=eng

Thanks.

Would it work if we downgrade to Windows 2003?

Yes. You should able to get the teaming software for WS03. But i would suggest to downgrade to WS08 rather than WS03 as support for WS03 is very limited.

Yes. But this stil doesnt fix the fact that I need to run WS08R2 and there is no teaming software available for the Pro1000MT's. how do i get around this problem with the current hardware? i know that if i install a broardcom NIC i can use the Broardcom teaming software with the intell ports but i would rather not do this.

Unfortunately, Dell has no plans to support teaming for the PE2850 for w2k8R2.
