Poweredge 2850 and Server 2008 R2

I've done quite a bit of searching but was not able to find any issues that I have been experiencing while trying to install Server 2008 R2. From everything I've gathered, it is possible to install 2008 R2 on a PE 2850 but I am running into issues.

I have updated all firmware on the system, Bios, BMC, Backplane and raid card controller. Have successfully configured the raid and initialized the drives.

Now when I try to boot from the 2008 r2 installation CD, I receive the following message:

Status: 0xc00000e9

Info: An unexpected I/O error has occurred.

Note that I was able to install server 2003 and boot into the OS. Anyone have any ideas?

Try installing from USB or try a different model of DVD drive.

Did you install the 2008 R2 drivers for the PERC 4e/Di?

I had dozens of server running 2008 R2 at one time.

I couldn't even get to the point where it asked to install the drivers for 2008 R2.

I just installed 2008 non R2 64bit and it worked fine. Which is sufficient enough for me to do what I need to do.

It is your DVD drive. Try installing from USB or swap the DVD drive for another. Bizarre, I know, but I've seen it before.

In the motherboard  bios have you seen the "install Mode"  option?

I know this is a old thread but thought I would see if anyone is still paying attention to it. I am having pretty much the same issue. It isn't recognizing my drives. What RAID drivers did you install? I can't seem to find any that work.

Thanks in advance,

Ken

Make sure that you have installed latest BIOS (BIOS A07).

Setup Windows Server 2008 R2 On a flash drive.

Copy the RAID controller drivers to any folder on the USB flash drive. The installation will scan all folders on the USB in order to perform a driver installation for the Hard disk.

Setup RAID configuration.

Ensure the BIOS is setup correctly to boot to USB.

Ensure the USB is in the rear ports. I have tried both in the front and back of the server I had…. and only the rear worked for boot.
