SBS 2008 Install on Poweredge 1900 fails
Trying to install SBS 2008 onto a Poweredge 1900 but hangs before getting to the screen for setting language and date and time. It does the loading files when booting from the DVD, switches to the usual left to right scrolling (green) bar than shortly after that it hangs. Most frustrating.
BIOS is latest (2.6.1), BMC (2.36/A10), optical drive even updated firmware on that.
Running two 160 SATA drives off the internal controller
RAM is upgraded from 2 GB (4x512MB) to 6 GB (4x512MB + 2x2GB - not optimal I know but no change running the 2x2GB)
Have tried using a WD 500 GB SATA drive as an install destination. No change
Have tried reburning the ISO and have also downloaded and tried abother ISO - no change - original ISO worked OK installing as a virtual machine on another box.
Currently out of ideas on how to get this thing any further. It has been happily running Server 2003 with no issues so hardware appears to be in good shape.
Open to suggestions.........

Have got it sorted. Ended up going into the BIOS and disabled the demand based power management under the CPU options.
If that option is enabled, SBS 2008 will hang when starting, or fail to get the install going. Weird that Server 2003 Standard has no problem with it, but SBS 2008 does.
At least I have an OS on there now.

Hi nonnayabidness,
This looks like intresting behavior. What is your full hardware config.? I don't see any direct relation between DBS and OS install hang.
Thanks.

Original System Configuration follows: NOTE Did not come with a tape drive even though it is listed, additional RAM the only change from the original spec.

I forgot to ask one more question. Did you able to enable DBS and boot into the OS after completing the installation?

I got SBS 2008 installed, made sure it had run through all of the oustanding updates, then re-enabled DBS. Again it hangs while booting, basically in the same place as booting off the install DVD. Forced a power off, disabled again through the BIOS, and it starts up again with no problems.
While diagnosing the problem I disabled all the CPU extra features, then enabled them one by one, followed by a reboot to the install DVD to test. If it loaded to the actual installer GUI where you define date and time etc, then I knew it was OK. Once I had found DBS was causing the issue I tried disabling all the other features apart from DBS, and the problem was still there, so I knew it was DBS enabled causing the problem.
