ESXi 4.1->5.0 and PP/VE 5.4 -> 5.7 Upgrade

Anyone who upgraded ESXi 4.1 with PowerPath/VE 5.4 to ESXi 5.0 with PowerPath/VE 5.7 in place?

We are planning an upgrade of our ESXi 4.1 hosts which have PP/VE 5.4 SP2 installed to ESXi 5.0. I found out that we also have to upgrade PowerPath to 5.7 to work with vSphere 5.0. We intend to make an in place upgrade of the ESXi hosts to keep the configuration. But what about PowerPath?

Regards & Thanks in advance for hints!

Hi Daniel. Before upgrading the OS from 4.1 to 5.0, you will need to remove PowerPath/VE 5.4 SP2. Once the OS upgrade is complete, you may install PowerPath/VE 5.7.

If you need more information, please let me know.

Thanks, Brion

Hi Brion,

thanks for the info.

What about the licensing? We use host based licensing. I assume that the ESX UUID will not change during the upgrade from 4.1 to 5.0. Do we need to convert the licenses?

As long as the UUID remains the same, there is no need to change the Unserved license.

Thanks, Brion
