Powerpath and Hyperv Host

We plan to have 3 Hyperv VMs in a failover cluster on 2 Hyperv Hosts. All of them will be using Server 2012R2.

My question are steps below enough to allow the 3 VMs to see the cluster disks?

1) Create the VMs

2) Install powerpath only on the 3 VMs

3) Create vSAN using HyperV manager and map it to all 3 VMs

4) Configure the PWWN created by the HyperV manager on Unity 300 and the San Switch.

5) Create the VMs inside the Unity 300 GUI and give them access to the SAN disks.

Hello, as general steps yes that would cover setting up NPIV so that the VMs can see some LUNs created on the Unity server through the HyperV servers.

Please ensure you use a late version of PowerPath. Check the release notes, as older versions did not support NPIV.

The only query I had was, what is running Failover Cluster? Both the 3 x VMs as well as the 2 x node HyperV servers?

Double check that your configuration plan is supported by Microsoft.

Regards, Michel.

Hello Mich,

Just the 3 VMs, the hosts are not. I’ve checked and seems like it does support. Will be deploying it and shall know for sure in a week or so.
