Uninstalling Powerpath
Hello All,
I have to uninstall PowerPath from a couple of hosts I am migrating. I will have 2 scenarios - a single host and clustered hosts.
I have found the KB article on how to uninstall PowerPath, but in other posts have also see recommendations of stopping one of the paths prior to uninstalling.
Can someone please shed some light on the best way to do this for my 2 scenarios?
Also, how can I 'stop' one of the paths in Powerpath? I only see an option for Standby which doesn't seem like the same thing - is my other valid option just to unplug one of the physical paths?
Thanks in advance!!!!!

are you disconnecting from EMC storage or you are doing some kind of Powerpath upgrade ?

For these particular boxes they are being disconnected/migrated to different storage.

I think the concerns are with data integrity... The data will need to be intact to be migrated to the new storage.
Thanks again.

different storage vendor ? If that's the case, disconnect storage from the host and uninstall PowerPath. What are your concerns ?

Follow the best practise as in Primus / knowledgebase # : emc90664.
If it is cluster host then you need to disable the HBA, Refer the Primus attached.

so you have EMC storage attached to the server, you are getting ready to present another vendor storage and need to uninstall Powerpath before you install their failover software ? Just trying to understand what you are getting ready to do

Yes - but not install their multipathing software (yet).. I plan to have both storage systems attached to the hosts at the same time to get the data to the new storage.. so prior to connecting the new storage, I will uninstall PowerPath, but want to ensure integrity of the data...
Do you still think that unplugging one physical path and then uninstalling PowerPath is probably the best bet?

yes, you definitely want to have only one path to your storage before you uninstall PowerPath.

Thanks Babus - I did see that kb article earlier but didn't read the whole thing as it seemed like it only applied if the instructions from emc100126 didn't work (which this kb article did mention).
It seems as though the cluster section applies either way so that's great!
