PowerVault DL2200 RAM & CPU issue

So I recently purchased a Dell PowerVault DL2200 with the impression that it would/could function the same as the R510 model with the 12 hot swap bays and 2 internal 2.5inch drives. I got a really good deal on it so I couldn't pass it up.

I have the server up and running just fine but am having a couple issues.

1) I have 8x8GB RAM installed and it recognizes 64GB but Windows Server is only listing 48GB as usable.

2) It came with 2 x Xeon E5620 procs, and I have a bunch of different spare procs I can use in this. I have a pair of X5650's and a pair of X5680's that I would think are compatible. I've even seen the DL2200 listed on ebay with x5650's in them. However, when I install either of these procs the server powers on but never posts. The fans spin really fast and loud which tells me it's likely not supported.

I'm trying to find firmware and BIOS updates for this but it's rather difficult to find any for the DL2200. I've attempted to use some of the R510 updates but it rejects the install since it doesn't match the system.

Any ideas?

Hello CJston15,

Here is a link to the Bios for your DL2200 that would allow you to use it like a PER510 server.  http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/drivers/driversdetails?driverId=DJ0VY

http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/drivers/driversdetails?driverId=00R2X

Once you have upgraded the bios you should be able to change the processors and get them to work correctly.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

If I try and run either executable within Windows it tells me that it is not compatible with my system.
