Added actual new Drives
I am new to using the PowerVault, and trying to determine the actual process of added new harddrives to a MD3000i. I understand the tool to add a physical drive to disk group, but cannot seem to find in documentation what I am looking for.

In the MDSM GUI from the Modify tab select Add Free Capacity to add a physical disk to an existing disk group.
In the CLI the "set diskGroup" command can be used with the "addPhysicalDisks" option.

What exactly are you looking for?
If you just want to put in new drives to replace blank fillers, just remove the bezel, remove the blank filler(s) in question and slide in the new drive(s).
If you bought an MD1000 and need to daisy chain it off of your MD3000i, you'll need to shut down all systems using disk space on the MD3000i, then shut down the MD3000i, cable the MD1000 (using both SAS ports) to the MD3000i, power on the MD1000, give it a minute or 2 to spin up the drives, power on the MD3000i and then power on your servers again.

I believe you answered the question. I just want to add new drives in the open bays. I wasn't sure that if all slots were considered HOT SWAP. If I am going to completed populate the entire md3000i device, do you see a problem with that, if I go slow or does it matter.

Drives, controllers, and power supplies in the MD3000i are all HOT SWAP.
No problem what so ever with what you would like to do.
