Adding MD3000 to 2950

I just picked up a MD3000 to add to my 2950.  I've put in the P5 SAS card, the 2950 sees it.  I've loaded up the MD3000 with drives and configured all the drives as a raid 5 with one spare.  I can get to the MD3000 via out of band connection, everything looks great, but the 2950 does not see the virtual drive on the MD3000.  I've tried to set up ISCSI but it does not see the MD3000.  I'm using Windows Server 2012.

Hello M112560,

What you need to do is the host to virtual disk mapping in MDSM.  Here is a link to the Administrator guide & if you look on page 60 it explains how to do that. http://downloads.dell.com/manuals/all-products/esuprt_ser_stor_net/esuprt_powervault/powervault-md3000i_user%27s%20guide20_en-us.pdf

Once the mapping is done then you can do a rescan on the host and it should see the virtual disk.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

I recently moved the 2950 and MD3000.  When I powered them both back up, the 2950 did not see the virtual disks anymore.  I can still see the configuration in Modular Disk Storage Manager.

Hello M112560,

When you powered on your PE2950 and MD3000, did you power on your MD3000 first and wait 5 minutes then boot your PE2950?  If you didn’t then, I would reboot your PE2950 & you should see your virtual disk showing.  If you still don’t then I would check the system event viewer to see if there is any errors with your SAS hba.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.
