Backing up MD3000i
I am setting up MD3000i without the optional snapshot software and need to know the best way to backup all the data onto Tape from the MD3000i.
I have 3 servers and plan to create 3 VDs on the MD3000i (one for each server). As the Tape drive is attached to one of these servers, I can see a problem as each server will only be assigned to their own VD. Therefore the server with the tape drive cannot see the other 2 VDs.
I have read that multiple hosts can share the VDs, but only if the servers are clustered....which I dont want to do as they run different apps, one is a Domain Controller, one an application server and one a file server.
Any ideas on the best way to back up the whole Array. The backup software will be BackupExec
Will I have to backup up each server in turn with its associated VD, or is there a way to backup the entire MD3000i itself.
Thanks

The easiest is to install a backup agent on the other 2 servers and let the backups go over the network.
You can indeed NOT share disks between servers unless they are clustered.
