Dell PowerVault TL2000 and ULT3580-HH5 (IBM)

Hi All,

Did someone update the firmware of TL2000 (Library and TapeDrive) ? The tapedrive I have is ULT3580-HH5 (IBM), which makes me wonder if I update the firmware to C.30 (which is the latest for the Library) would it also update the tape drive firmware ? currently the firmware on my tape drive is D2AD which I believe is old one. When I click on the upgrade firmware I get the interface for uploading two files 1) for the Library Firmware File and 2) for the Drive Firmware File, does it mean that the firmware for tapedrive comes in other updates and C.30 version is only for the library ?

Secondly, while clicking on firmware update it says that I should take the device offline ? how could I do it ?

BTW, the tape drive (LTO5 - E6Q3) folder has two files one with LTO5_E6Q3.fc.ro and the other is LTO5_E6Q3.ro , which one should I use it on the drive ?

Hi adeelarifbhatti

The firmware file available from support.dell.com contains both the TL2000 library and the tape drive firmware.

Please refer to this manual on Page 161 on Upgrade Firmware:

ftp.dell.com/.../powervault-tl2000_User%27s%20Guide_en-us.pdf

Hope this helps.

Hi,

I updated the firmware for both library and drive succesfully. What I did is, I poweroff the backup server (the server to which tape drive is attached) and first I updated the library firmware and after that I updated the firmware for the drive. I used LTO5_E6Q3.ro file as LTO5_E6Q3.fc.ro is for fiber channel.
