Error in computer management with md3000
Presently setting up poweredge 6850 server with md3000 drive, have created disk groups and virtual disks ok on md3000 storage manager, when go into disk management on server it can see the disks but keep getting "incorrect function" error when setting disk as online, some have worked OK but others now just keep getting same "incorrect function error".
Tried deleting/recreating makes no difference same message appears.

Did you install the host software (or the typical/full install) of the MD3000 software on the server? This is required for proper disk access.

Yes using modular disk storage manager, has created disk groups and virtual disks fine, then goto disk management on server but get error when select online for the created disks, some have worked fine but now cant create any more. Have just updated md3000 firmware but no difference.
thanks

If you've updated the firmware to A07 then you need the A07 mdsm This will update the servers drivers, multipath software etc as well as installing the latest version of msdm.

Yes firmware is A07, the software was installed earlier this week from dell download as did not have or locate cd'for md3000, still same issue when setting virtual disks to online on server.

Do you have (SAS) connections to both raid controllers, or just to 1 raid controller (or do you only have 1 raid controller)? It shouldn't matter with the host software installed, but maybe if you're connecting to one controller, but the virtual disk is assigned to the other controller it might cause odd things.
Another thing; which exact version of Windows are you using? Is it maybe 2008 R2? This uses a different kernel than 2008 if I'm not mistaken (same kernel as Windows 7 where 2008 ("R1") uses the same kernel as Vista) and the MDSM host software may not be compatible (yet) with 2008 R2 (it's not listed on the support matrix for the MD3000 last I checked). It might have installed w/o error (I haven't tried it/run into it yet), but may not work.

Windows 2008 R2 is not yet supported on the MD3000 or MD3000i.
My recommendation is to revert to the prior supported version of Windows 2008.

We have been setting up somethng similar (2x R710's connected to MD3000 and clustered) and have had a few issues. We also received the "Incorrect Function" error in Windows Disk Management which seemed to occur when you accessed the disk via the "non owner". We managed to rid ourselves of this by setting the host type to "Windows MSCS Cluster-Single Path" in MDSM, however this then gave us other problems (cluster validation failing being the main one).
Anyone know when Windows Server 2008 R2 will be officially supported on the MD3000? Microsoft have released the code to certain sectors and we for one are eager to get on.
Thanks
