Hyper-V 2012 R2 Failover Cluster with Dell EMC MD1420

We have two Windows Server 2012 R2 hosts and have purchased a Dell EMC MD1420 storage array and two Perc H830 RAID controllers. We're looking for some information about connecting the MD1420 to both hosts to use as shared storage for a Hyper-V failover cluster. Can anyone help guide us to properly configure this setup?

Re: Hyper-V 2012 R2 Failover Cluster with Dell EMC MD1420

Hi,

Clustering is not supported on the 1420. http://topics-cdn.dell.com/pdf/storage-md1400_Deployment%20Guide_en-us.pdf

Re: Hyper-V 2012 R2 Failover Cluster with Dell EMC MD1420

I believe you can do a Storage Spaces Direct cluster with the MD1420, but I do believe it requires Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter (not the free Hyper-V server OS). It also requires an HBA instead of a raid controller (H830 is a raid controller). If memory serves, 2012 R2 Storage Spaces Direct is not hyper-converged, so you cannot run Hyper-V VMs on the Storage Spaces Direct cluster.

This link has some info about it.
