MD1000 - upgrading firmware

Hi all.

Just looking to see if there is an easy way to upgrade firmware on quite a few MD1000's.

Is it possible to use the serial port to upgrade firmware?

Ideally, we'd like to use a laptop containing any software/firmware required to upgrade firmware, rather than installing software on each server.

Also, does upgrading firmware wipe out any stored raid config?

Thanks.

I don't know of any way to even use the serial port.

Just connect it to a PERC5 or PERC6, boot into Windows or Linux and use the executable/binary file to upgrade the firmware.

If your server is running a different OS, boot to a Linux live CD and execute the linux binary from there (e.g. from a USB key).

If you can find one, I'd suggest Red Hat or SuSE, but you can try Ubuntu, Fedora, openSuSE, etc.
