MD1200 RAID and Installing Windows
Question - RAID and MD 1200
I took over a system that was no longer in use.
Dell R610 with 2 internal 146 GB Drives and a MD1200 with 6 600 GB Drives.
There are two controllers – 6i PERC for the internal Drives, 6e PERC Adapter for the MD1200
I initialized the internal drives to RAID1 and the MD 1200 to RAID 5 (5 drives and a spare)
I loaded the Windows 2008 Server R2 DVD and booted the server to install Windows 2008.
I want to install Windows on the RAID 1 internal drive.
When I get to the screen to select a location, I see the following
DISK 0 Partition 1 2048 GB Primary
DISK 0 Unallocated Space 185.5 GB
DISK 1 Unallocated Space 136.1 GB
DISK 0 looks to be the MD 1200
But, what are the other 2 drives?
I do not see the RAID 1 Drive I want to install Windows onto..

You don't need to delete it before the install - you can delete it and/or convert it directly to GPT in Windows once installed.

There are only two "disks" ... disk 0 is your MD, but because the disk is MBR (not GPT), the space above 2TB is the second "disk 0" listing. Disk 1 is your 2x146GB RAID 1.

Easiest thing to do (assuming you don't care about any existing data on the drives) is to delete the existing partition (1) on DISK 0, then select DISK 1 to install your OS. Then once the OS is installed, use the Computer Management console to setup DISK 0 as the data drive. At that point you'd setup the disk as the GPT style which will allow you to make a volume larger than 2TB.
You can delete the partition right from the screen you're selecting where to do the installation from, just hit 'Drive options (advanced)' at the bottom right, then the Delete option will appear.
