MD3200 with Server 2012
Can you connect two MD3200 units to a single server? Our Dell R910 server has two HBA's which leaves a spere SAS connecter on each card. We recently purchased a newer MD3200 unit and I would like to utilize both MD3200 units if possible? I know you can connect multiple servers to a single MD3200 but I cannot find any information on the reverse, two MD3200's and a single Host?

Hello klimon,
You can’t connect two MD3200 sas to the same host. With an MD3200 sas you can only have one connected per host. If you need more space, then you will need to use an MD1200 to expand your MD3200 sas.

Can I connect multiple MD3200 Units to a single Host/Server?
I have two HBA cards on our Dell Poweredge R910 server running ESXi 6.5 with a single MD3200 and one MD1220. I have a spare MD3200 that I would like to connect to the two spare ports on the HBA? Will the R910 recognize this and make it available for ESXi?

Sam - since I cannot connect multiple MD3200 units to a single server what would be the best way to transfer data to the newer MD3200 if I connect the newer MD3200 to a different host. This seems odd that you can connect multiple hosts to an MD3200 but not the other way around...
Can I pull the hard drives from the older MD3200 and plug them into the newer MD3200 with original data intact?

Hello klimon,
If you have an MD3200i then you can connect multiple MD3200i to a single host. Since your MD3200 is a SAS, you can only have one MD3200 connected to the host.
You can pull the drives from your old MD3200 and insert them in your newer MD3200 & it will see the data. I would get a backup of your data just in case you need to restore any data.
