MD3200i admin password reset

Hello,

I need to reset admin password on MD3200i. I know that I have two options to do this: 1. Serial Cable, 2. Reset button on RAID Controller. I don't have any PC with serial port so I need to go with option 2. My questions are: If I have two RAID controllers do I need to use reset button on both of them? Does this reset button do only password reset without touch any other configuration? I'm asking because it is a live data storage and I don't want to lose any configuration. Thank you.

Hello RZNelipak,

First off what is the current version of firmware on your MD3200i? The reason that I ask this is “The password reset switch is not available if your system was shipped after September, 2015. The password reset switch functionality was disabled starting from controller firmware 08.20.09.60 and later versions.”

Now when u use the password reset button it just rests the password & leaves all other configuration in place.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

We are in the same boat. Need to reset the password, yet doesn't appear to work depressing the reset button. Have tried on both controllers holding up to 10 seconds then power-cycling. Firmware version is 08.20.24.60 and MFG date is July 2013. We do not have a proper cable to use Putty. What other options do we have?

Hello nasasvcs,

You will need to get the password rest cable in order to change the password.  As stated above the reset button will not work to reset the password since you are using newer firmware that has disabled that feature.  If your MD3200 is still under warranty then we can send you the password reset/ serial cable.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Dharmie,

The kb article here describes the process to reset using the serial cable.

Let me know if this helps.

Hello Chris,

This worked like a charm and I even got to clear some other errors too using the VxWorks console.

All controllers are now up and running efficiently.

However, there is one last issue pending.
I have 2 physical disks in “impending failure” state and a virtual disk sitting on them in a failed state.

Please advise, if I fail the physical disk and uncheck the copy option, will I be able to recover that virtual disk after replacing the physical disk?

Note: the physical disk is in raid 10.

i have completed all controller and disk firmware upgrade yesterday successfully.

this virtual disk is housing my database hence the application cannot access it.

i will appreciate any information you can share to remedy this situation as this is a live and critical system, which we have bought new R940s to replace but we have to save what is on it first.

best regards.

Hi @dharmie,

You can refer to the steps for impending failure procedure.

https://dell.to/3nPG5Fa

But you did mention that the virtual disk that is residing in the RAID 10 is in failed state, hence if you were to replace the disk, it will not be able to rebuild as you mentioned 2 disk is in impending failure.

Thanks Joey

what do you advise should be done to get the failed virtual disk back before following the steps in the link shared.

note: I am very vast with this as to following core processes and instruction especially from a specialist of the OEM, just give me the instruction and I will sort it out.

my new infrastructure is already mounted, this is the delay in failing over

You may want to review the support bundle, or even upload it to upload. dell. com, and we can look at it as well. If you decide to upload it then private message me the svc tag used to upload and I can retrieve it.

We would want to review the cause of why the VD is failed, and see what options we have to try to resolve it.

We are not able to download the log from there, and it doesn't look like the complete bundle. Review the steps for pulling the support bundle on page 243 here.

You will likely have to upload it to the Dell upload page, as we have limitations retrieving from 3rd party sources.

I had put spaces in the link to keep it from shortening it.

If you still have issues with it, you may try from another browser.

The link would be Dell SupportAssist File Upload
