MD3200i - impending disk failure on RAID10 Disk Group
Hi, I have an impending disk failure in a RAID10 Disk Group on a MD3200i.
What is the right procedure to replace a disk that is not currently failed?
Can I set the disk offline and then replace the old disk with a new one?
Thanks, regards.

Hello, Fede_pg.
It is exactly that simple. In MDSM, you can right click that disk, fail it and ensure the hot spare takes over (provided you have one). Give it about a minute, and then replace that disk with the new one.
When replacing a disk, it's always a good practice to wait about 60 to 90 seconds between steps.
Fail the disk, wait. Pull the disk, wait. Insert the new one, etc.
Let me know how it goes.
Have a great rest of the day!

Hello, thanks for your answer.
This array is currently running a really old firmware (7.70.06.63), maybe the GUI is slightly different. Here's what I see, according to the Recovery Guru suggested Procedure:
Then the Guru says:
"You want to replace the failed physical disk with a new physical disk
a - Remove the physical disk (its status LED may be amber flashing).
b - Wait 30 seconds, and then insert the new physical disk.
Note: Wait until the replaced physical disk is ready (status LED is green).
c - Wait until the replaced physical disk is ready (status LED is green).
d - Click the Recheck button to rerun the Recovery Guru to ensure that the failure has been fixed."
Can I safely follow these steps?
Thanks again.

You can. Just fail the disk by clicking exactly what you have circled, and follow those steps. Let me know if you run into any snags.

So i just have same impending disk error and failed the disk at mdsm , now the hot spare is rebuilding. And i am waiting hot spare for the rebuild done. After that i ll replace the failed disk.. Do i need to right click the failed status disk and click replace before physically replacing the disk ? Or just replacing and it will start automatically copy back .?

Hello, Tolga_yilmaz.
If you wait for the rebuild to finish all the way, and the array has settled down, the CopyBack process will start on it's on. If you put the new disk in WHILE the Hotspare is rebuilding, then it will confuse the MD, and you'll need to use the "Replace Physical Disk" wizard.

You typed as that hot spare can take over and rebuild itself in one minute , but not possible for 900gb disk... ?

thanks . i just wondered whats the next step after manually failing the disk and hot spare process completed. Now i just replaced the disk and the copy back process started automatically.
thanks.
