R710 with MD1200 | no physical drives detected

Hi All - I've got a Dell R710 with a new H800 installed, connected to a MD1200. I'm trying to configure the md1200 via the H800 bios config utility but there are no drives present in the PD Mgmt tab. I've got 12 (12TB) sata hard drives.

I have updated the firmware to the H800 and MD1200 to the latest versions.

Other info that might be useful:

  • None of the hard drive lights light up
  • md1200 is in unified mode
  • the md1200 has a solid blue status light
  • I've also connected to the system via open manage and it also doesn't show any disks.

Turns out that that my sata hdds were mounted to far back in the caddy. Apparently I should've been using the SAS holes and not the SATA holes in the caddy.

Hello Angel.D,

Did you power on your MD1200 first and wait 5 minutes before powering on your host?  Are the drives that you are using Dell drives or 3rd party drives?  If the drives are Dell drives what is the Dell part#’s on the drives?

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Was the H800 happy with your large SATA drives?  Did you set up raid or pass the discs through to your server directly?  I'm exploring running FreeNAS with this setup.
