Tape drive

Hi all,

is the tape drive or drive unit for tl2000 or 124 the unit which reads the tape etc and it is a pluggable module ?

is so , if we have a tl2000 which can only do one job at the time, I am guessing us by getting a second library can get it to do two jobs at the same time such as backing up on one side and restoring data on another using the same device , is that correct ?

thanks

Hello stranger12,

With either the TL2000 or the PV124T you will need to connect it to your host via a SAS, iSCSI, or fibre cable depending on which drive that you get. Now with the TL2000 you can get 2 half height drives so that you can run 2 jobs at the same time. But if you don’t have 2 drives then you will only be able to do one job at a time. Here is a link to the users guide for both the TL2000 & PV124T.

SR# 902538288 Hello stranger12,

With the TL2000 it comes with either 1 or 2 tape drives & has 24 slots available to hold media.  The PV124T comes with 1 tape drive as well & if you only have the left magazine then it will only hold 8 tapes, but if you have both the magazines then it can hold 16 media tapes.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Hello stranger12,

If it is only showing one tape drive in backup exec then you should only have one drive in your TL2000. You can also confirm this by looking at the back of your TL2000. Here is a link to the user’s guide and if you look on page 23 there is a picture that shows you what it looks like for a single full height drive and 2 half heights. ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_ser_stor_net/esuprt_powervault/powervault-tl2000_User%27s%20Guide_en-us.pdf

Hello stranger12,

If you have a TL2000 you can tell if you have a full height drive if there is no filler blank about the drive.  If that is the case then you have a TL2000 with a full height drive & 24slots ( 23 data, & 1 Import/ Export slot). If you  have a PV124T then it will have I tape drive & 16 slots if you have both the right & left magazines.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.
